How to Plan a Luxury Destination Wedding in Maldives

A wedding ceremony in one of the world’s most luxurious destinations is a dream of many couples. In the Maldives, you can create magical scenes for your special day that look straight out of a Disney love story; with the golden sun, silver sand, turquoise water, and the lush greenery.

Planning a wedding can be stressful enough, but adding a foreign location to the mix takes it to a whole new level. Hence, our luxury travel experts are here to help make your destination wedding stress-free.

Note: As you can't have a legal wedding in the Maldives, couples tie-the-knot in their home country and have their wedding celebration in Maldives.

Choose Your Venue

You have an impressive range of choices when it comes to choosing the location. While the Maldives is best known for its dreamy beach settings, your options go beyond a beach wedding.

If the popular barefoot wedding with the Indian Ocean backdrop isn’t in your Pinterest board, other amazing ideas include:

Yacht wedding

Take your first steps onto the gleaming deck, where you are greeted by the gentle hum of the engines and the salty breeze of the ocean. Surrounded by nothing but the tranquil ocean views, a yacht wedding gives you a sense of seclusion that’s rare in today’s world. Make a toast to your wedding as the sky with shades of pink and orange cast a warm glow over you and your guests.

Underwater wedding

As you make your way into the underwater restaurant, you are welcomed by colourful schools of fish and exotic sea creatures. Exchange your rings in the serene glow of the ocean. Have world-class dishes and wines paired with a scene that you will find nowhere else. The beauty of the underwater restaurant, combined with the magic of the wedding day, will create an unforgettable memory that you and your guests will treasure forever.

Overwater wedding

For a unique and intimate setting that is not under the water nor on land, opt for an overwater pavilion. You and your guests will be whisked there on a private boat. Every part of your wedding experience will highlight the stunning blue hues that the Maldives is so loved for. While exchanging vows, you can watch the tropical fishes, rays, and sharks glide beneath your feet.

Private Island wedding

Step off from your seaplane to an exclusive island that you rented just for your dream wedding. Enjoy everything the Maldives has to offer, in full privacy as your guests are your only neighbours. Be amazed as the island gets transformed into a magical setting for your special day. Exchange your vows under a canopy of flowers, dance and feast under the stars.

Saving the Date

When confirming the date of your wedding celebration, it is important to consider the climate of Maldives. As the destination has a tropical monsoon climate, there are two seasons: The southwest monsoon (wet season), which extends from mid-May to November, and the northeast monsoon (dry season), which extends from January to March.

In order to avoid any heavy rainfalls that could ruin your plans, it is recommended to travel during the northeast monsoon or dry season, between January and March. This is also the peak season for Maldives, as most travellers fly in to enjoy the greatest sunshine and snorkelling conditions. However, the islands experience little variation in temperatures throughout the year.

Create Memories

From getting ready to walking down the aisle to dancing, there’s a lot of excitement to take in. Many couples turn those moments into a haven that they can visit together and reminisce about the day that brought so much joy. In the Maldives, this haven takes the form of more than photographs and guest books.

In Soneva, you can adopt a coral table and personalise it by giving it your own choice of name. You will receive a certificate and images of your name tag and table. Then, for one year, the Soneva team will take care of the corals until they are ready to be planted out on the reef. You will be updated throughout the process. Once your corals are planted on the reef, you and your loved one can visit the reef together and remember your special day.

In Baros Maldives, you can commemorate the day by leaving your mark in nature. Plant an indigenous palm tree in honour of the ceremony. It is the symbol of a true bond, as your tree is tagged not only with your names, but also the wedding date and a love message.
